THE SPIRAL ELECTRIC
----
The Spiral Electric are a heavy psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, bringing a mixture of roaring guitars and orbiting synthesizer not heard this side of the galaxy since HAL 9000 dropped acid with Brian Jones and Tony Iommi in the windmills of your mind.
LA CERCA
----
Where Ryanhood and Rebekah Rolland offer two perspectives on modern folk within Tucson city limits, La Cerca is here to offer a warm dosage of psychedelic rock from the old pueblo. In some ways, the darker, rock-edged corners of their upcoming album, Night Bloom, come as a surprise when juxtaposed against the shimmering pop of their previous release, 2015’s Sunrise For Everyone. Not only does it make thematic sense, however, but frontman Andrew Gardner (vocals, guitar) proves that he can rock harder and louder than he previously had alongside the band’s Bill Oberdick (guitar), Brian Green (bass), and Tom King (drums).
SILENT PICTURES
----
"Silent Pictures put on a great show channeling the sounds of Joy Division, Roxy Music, Japan and The Smiths with their own unique twist." - DARK BEAUTY MAGAZINE
Alexander Mann started playing music in 1989 and has played a lot since then. He's been in Mellow Drunk, Boyskout, Your Precious You and, more recently, Silent Pictures, which is his project. Musically, Silent Pictures pulls heavily from shoegaze bands, such as My Bloody Valentine. But they also perform some Roxy Music glam-ballads, upbeat jangle-pop and even toss a few dance beats in the mix. What makes Silent Pictures interesting (And Mann enigmatic) is the degree to which he subverts attention away from himself as a performer, which he does in part by projecting videos during his performances. The eerie, moodiness of the music is thoroughly captivating. The only other permanent member besides Mann is Rene Love, whose role plays heavily into the performance art aspect of the group. -THE METRO
