Musical Style: Jazz Vocal
The Jazz Singers features three of Colorado’s distinguished jazz vocalists—Myra Warren, MaryLynn Gillaspie and Tina Phillips—at Dazzle on Wednesday, January 13, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. Accompanied by Stu MacAskie on piano, Andrew Hudson on bass and Harold Summey on drums, the singers will bring their individual styles and extensive experience to an evening celebrating vocal jazz. Dazzle is located at 1080 14th Street, Denver, CO 80202.
Myra Warren began her career in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood in the mid-1980s and is known for her warm voice, thoughtful interpretation of lyrics and performances with Purnell Steen and the Five Points Ambassadors. MaryLynn Gillaspie is a founding member of the Grammy-nominated vocal group Rare Silk, which received acclaim performing alongside Miles Davis, Branford Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Goodman, and opening for Spyro Gyra and B.B. King. Her repertoire spans swing, jazz standards and contemporary material. Tina Phillips is a Denver native, vocalist, songwriter and educator with more than four decades of experience performing at jazz clubs and festivals. Her career includes collaborations with a wide range of jazz musicians, including Art Lande, Paul Warburton and Bruno Carr. Together, these singers represent decades of contributions to Colorado’s jazz community.
