Berlin duo Modeselektor, Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, have spent three decades turning chaos into some of electronic music’s most electrifying dancefloor moments. The pair grew up in East Berlin’s suburbs and found each other in the mid-’90s at acid house parties held in squatted spaces across the newly reunified city, taking their name from a setting on the Roland RE-201 Space Echo. Through BPitch Control and their own imprints Monkeytown Records and 50Weapons, they forged a sound that fuses IDM, UK bass, dubstep, techno, and hip-hop, driven by relentless intensity and a love of the absurd. Their collaborators span the global underground, from Thom Yorke, Blixa Bargeld, and Omar Souleyman to Moderat, their band with Apparat that packs venues worldwide. They followed a DJ-Kicks mix built as both a peak-time club set and a deep-listening session with Classics Vol. 1, released March 6, 2026 on Monkeytown, which began as a re-recording of early tracks from Hello Mom! and Happy Birthday! before heading somewhere unexpected. Their accompanying live show pulls those cult anthems apart and rebuilds them on stage in real time, proof that Modeselektor’s appetite for reinvention is as strong as ever.
