Max Wareham & Second Cousin

Stone Church

210 Main st, Brattleboro, VT

This event is All Ages

With many of their wildest dreams strung across more than two decades together, the Henhouse Prowlers' sight remains fixed on the future. Ever constant in the group's enthralling performances is their ability to showcase their passion for both their craft and our shared humanity. Their latest record, 'Unravel,' produced by Dark Shadow Recording’s Stephen Mougin (Sam Bush Band) underscores the quartet's resistance towards being contained, some tunes expressing a modern Americana feel with others nodding to classic country and bluegrass standards. On this offering, their trademark four-part harmonies have matured in tone and sincerity, their picking ferocious as ever. However, it’s impossible to ensnare the Prowlers’ lifeblood in 45 minutes and 12 tracks. Each member’s skills of storytelling, compelling songwriting, and intricate instrumentation shine through their onstage performances. Incorporating an inspiring narrative and bluegrass takes on international tunes from their travels, their live show will captivate minds and capture hearts. The group's many life-changing encounters as cultural diplomats across the globe have shaped their worldview and bolstered the bridges they establish between cultures, a main function of the band.

Max Wareham is a Boston-based banjo player, songwriter, and author. A longtime member of the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, he has toured nationally with Rowan and appears on his Grammy-nominated album Calling You From My Mountain alongside Billy Strings. He has performed at leading festivals including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, MerleFest, and RockyGrass, and fronts his own group, The National Bluegrass Team, with appearances at Carrboro Festival, Festival for the Eno, and Crooked River Festival. Rooted in traditional bluegrass with a lo-fi indie folk sensibility, Wareham's live shows move from intimate storytelling to high-energy ensemble playing, all driven by the banjo.

His second album, If The Cosmos Were Whiskey…, will be released June 19, 2026. His debut album Daggomit! (2025) is already drawing national attention, earning praise from The Bluegrass Situation, WBUR, No Depression, and Americana UK.
