Hailing from Oakland, California, Gold Band play instrumentals and songs that encompass the cinematic vistas of sixties soundtracks, the insistent grooves of Can and Afro-Funk, the twang of spy-noir and surf, and post-rock that has soul. Live shows are a kaleidoscopic mix of well crafted tunes, hypnotic grooves, and unfettered improvisation.
The band's first EP Duosonic was literally the sound of Gold Band's initial duo, Alex Pearcy and Martin Webb, demoing some early tunes prior to bassist/multiinstrumentalist Travis Atz joining the band.
Toward a Pure Gold Light, is a more fully realized rendering of the trio's sound and vision, and was captured by engineer Beau Sorenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Bob Mould, Dodos) at Oakland's Tiny Telephone studio. The title, taken from one of Alex's lyrics, perhaps alludes to some kind of optimistic quest, and serves as a fitting analog to the musical journey of this record.
