Few tenor saxophonists today can match Eric Alexander’s big burnished sound and mellifluous sense of swing. A protégé of Harold Mabern and Joe Lovano at William Paterson, Alexander cut his teeth in Chicago’s clubs with organ great Charles Earland, placed second to Joshua Redman at the 1991 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, and has been a fixture of the New York scene ever since. He has played on 80-plus albums as leader and sideman, worked alongside Pat Martino, Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, and Ron Carter, and co-founded the hard-bop sextet One for All.
