Foes of a Minimum Wage Guard is an award-winning solo comedy-drama play in which a 68-year-old retail worker is suddenly reassigned to loss prevention without training and must protect a struggling department store—or risk losing his job. Performed by Ken Harris portraying 12 different characters, the play explores workplace pressure, resilience, and the search for dignity through humor, suspense, and heartfelt storytelling.
Ken Harris
Ken Harris is a Springfield, Massachusetts-based playwright, actor, filmmaker, and solo performer whose work explores themes of resilience, social justice, and the experiences of everyday people. He is the creator and performer of Foes of a Minimum Wage Guard, an original one-man play portraying twelve characters and examining workplace discrimination, economic insecurity, and personal dignity through the story of an aging retail worker. Harris has performed the play throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, including at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City. His work has been supported by the Springfield, Chicopee, and Agawam Cultural Councils, and he is a member of the Springfield Cultural Partnership Cohort. In 2026, Harris received the Mass Indie Spirit Award for his short film The Phantom Ruse. Through theater and film, he is committed to creating engaging, community-centered stories that inspire conversation, reflection, and connection.
