CHALI 2NA AND CUT CHEMIST
Chali 2na and Cut Chemist have been inseparable for 35 years. It all started in 1987 when they formed their first group UNITY Committee just a couple years after Chali move from Chicago to Los Angeles.
In 1994 they combined forces with local rap group Rebels Of Rhythm to form Jurassic 5. Although J5 was in full swing making music and doing shows, Chali and Cut also were founding members of the fusion Latin group Ozomatli in 1995. Since then the two have been busy with both groups and still managed to find time to separate and embark in solo careers on the side. Cut Chemist went on to do remixes and features for such acts as DJ Shadow, Less Than Jake and Blackalicious. Chali also explored his rap prowess with such acts as Roots Manuva, Lyrics Born, Slightly Stoopid and Galactic just to name a few. Separately they also landed solo deals with Interscope and Warner Brothers.
The two have kept busy with their own separate careers while always finding time to collaborate. It’s a 35 year old friendship that manifests into music and art.
For the last three years they’ve been doing a special collaborative performance that tells the story of their lives in music together. The catalogue is as endless as the time they spent together creating over the years.
Indigenous Peoples
Indigenous Peoples, a 90’s flavor hip hop group made up of 3 MCs with a sound that can be described as back & forth rapid fire lyrics with a twist of harmony. (Think Bone Thugs / Jurassic 5 / Beastie Boys). Indigenous Peoples’ performance is filled with positive energy and crowd interaction. The name Indigenous Peoples is derived from each member’s first nation bloodlines that span the globe (Hopi, Māori, Arbore) as well as their unique delivery. The group was formed in 2001 and at the time, went by the moniker “2 Real”. Sadly in 2010 group member Larry Harris lost his life while rescuing a fellow marine serving in Afghanistan. Larry was awarded a Silver Star, Purple Heart as well as countless other medals. The United States Marine Corps also renamed the final Crucible obstacle course at Camp Pendleton in his honor. Over the years, Indigenous Peoples has taken on many forms. From a classic MC and DJ performance to a full 9 piece band. Members of this 9 piece band later became SunSquabi and Bob Molly. Indigenous Peoples has toured nationally as an opening act for Bone Thugs~n~Harmony as well as headlining their own tours. Indigenous Peoples has had the honor of working with and recording songs with many Hip Hop legends. IP has released five studio albums and currently wrapping up their sixth that includes features from DMC from Run DMC, Bizzy Bone and Spice 1.
