Born and Raised is a John Mayer tribute band that sprang from the very community in which he was raised. It’s a rare excuse for both the fans and musicians to get in the same room for a night and share their love of his music. This love inspired the group from its inception and has only deepened over time along with their commitment to capturing the spirit of Mayer’s music in their performances. From his early acoustic pop, to his blues-heavy trio recordings, to the recent Sob Rock era, the Born and Raised John Mayer tribute band is sure to bring a smile to diehard fans and casual listeners alike.

In 2018, singer and guitarist Billy Ruegger was a recently converted John Mayer fan living in Fairfield, CT. Billy was born in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield like Mayer, these parallels only adding fuel to the fire of his fandom. As he started incorporating more Mayer covers into his solo acoustic performances, Billy recognized that much of the local community felt a strong personal connection to him and his music as well. The idea of getting a band together to perform his material live was exciting, and Billy knew he was in the perfect area to do it. He formed a John Mayer tribute project that year with their debut performance being a sold out show at The Acoustic in Bridgeport, a venue that Mayer himself played in his younger years.

Five years later, with a wealth of experience under his belt playing the music of John Mayer, his live tribute project continues under the title Born and Raised. This name reflects what is special about this group- it was started in and for the same community that Mayer was brought up in. Their shows have evolved to feature a host of guest performers throughout the evening as well, giving the spotlight to a handful of other local musicians who have also been inspired by John Mayer’s music.
