Kelsi Schacht rolls her eyes every time she catches him fishing for her once-genuine compliment: “You’re my favorite songwriter.” His 19-year-old brother, a college shortstop, keeps it simple: “Shit’s hard, dog.”  Men have cried, and he feels warm about that.
