Did you say ASTRAL PROJECT at Chickie Wah Wah??? Our friend and frequent collaborator Dominic Minix said he wanted to play Chickie next with his jazz band Yung Vul next (instead of his monster ska powerhouse Bad Operation, who have played the club now twice this year), and he was interested in sharing a bill with Astral Project. That’s the kind of person Dominic is – he wants the BEST!

This is truly a meeting of generations. If you aren’t familiar, Astral Project – Tony Dagradi, Johnny Vidacovich, James Singleton and Steve Masakowski have been performing together as Astral Project for at least 35 years now. This is the best modern jazz outfit in New Orleans by a mile, and perhaps the best in the world. Who else has been together as a unit like that for that long? And total masters of their instruments. They rarely play in town these days (the annual Jazzfest set in the Jazz Tent where they leave everyone in attendance with mouths wide open, and occasional gigs at the venerable Snug Harbor), but we are lucky enough to have them at Chicke this Wednesday April 3rd..

They will play a full set beginning at 8pm, but don’t leave after that, because the young jazz lions Yung Vul will follow with their own set, and we can’t wait to see that either. This will be their debut at Chickie Wah Wah!

See you on Wednesday night!
