Animal, Surrender! is a duo of Peter Kerlin(Bassist in Sunwatchers, Chris Forsyth) and Rob Smith(Rhyton, Pigeons, Gray/Smith) on drums. On their debut album(s/t Ernest Jenning Record Co., May 2024), the pair execute, loping, elastic grooves, with folk melodicism and minimalist focus. Dusted described the album as “an intriguing rattletrap construction, bounded by intricate, syncopated percussion but with Kerlin’s bass musing its bass-like dreams within constraints.”
Alan Licht is a guitarist / composer / improvisor, whose work combines elements of pop, noise, free jazz and minimalism. For the last 40 years Licht has been a fixture of NYC “Downtown” and a preeminent guitarist of that seen. His recently reunited band, Love Child, just opened for Yo La Tengo at their Hannukah marathon at Bowery Ballroom. Alan's many collaborations over the years including those with Lee Renaldo, Jim O'Rourke, Rudolph Grey, and Loren Connors remain powerful standards of experimentation and technique.
Lichts’ recent album Havens(VDSQ Sept 2024) was described by Uncut as “minimal yet expansive, an exercise in contradictory impulses that coalesces to a remarkable roving degree.”
Earthen Sea is the ambient project from New York-based musician Jacob Long(Black Eyes). His latest album Recollections(Kranky, Nov 2024) is a “haunting hybrid of live instrumentation and processed sounds that exists in the liminal space between traditional jazz ensemble work and electronic manipulation.”
