MAKR AN ERIS
ERIC MAYSON
Eric Mayson, an innovative noise-maker from Minneapolis, has made a name for himself with a unique sound that merges elements of emotive piano, hip-hop, R&B, and indie pop. As a versatile multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer, Mayson has worked alongside prominent artists like Lizzo, Your Smith, Aby Wolf, Atmosphere, Dessa, and countless other artists in the Twin Cities music scene. His solo projects are known for their passionate lyrics, lush harmonies, maximalist production, and soulful style. In 2019, Mayson embarked on a new chapter, returning to school to study aviation, and now works as a flight instructor.
With Rerun (2024), Mayson invites listeners into a journey that’s as much a revisiting as it is a transformation. What began in the summer of 2019 as a burst of creativity—ten one-minute songs quickly captured and shared online—has evolved into a full-length album, meticulously woven through the threads of time, change, and return. Each track on Rerun is a conversation between past and present, where new experiences and perspectives respond to the raw inspiration of that nervous and exciting summer. Through his experience of leaving Minneapolis, returning to school, changing careers and finally coming back to both the city and his music, Mayson’s journey finds itself echoed in each song, creating a sense of déjà vu with fresh insight—like an episode you've seen before that feels both familiar and newly profound—a time capsule; a reprise; a Rerun!
BATHTUB CIG
bathtub cig is the intimate depression pop project of Hilary James Born in a Minneapolis bedroom during the spring of 2017, it is an honest attempt at coping with her long struggle with mental health. She is joined by Dave Power on drums, Skyler Nowiski on bass, and Adelyn Strei on guitar and harmony. Their 2018 debut EP, Old Light, draws comparisons to a synth-pop version of Frankie Cosmo with raw lyrics.
2021 EP bed is both a dream-like and hazy musing on quarantine as well as a heartbreaking attempt to cope with grief. In a departure from James’ first full-band EP, Old Light, this new release is a stripped-down solo voyage. Hilary is joined by Addie Strei (Adelyn Rose) on clarinet, flute, and bass to create beautiful textures to balance out the loneliness of the electric guitar.
Their 2022 debut full-length, Night Blindness, has been described as a clever and dark Gen Z Ode, putting our hardest thoughts into music.
