On Thursday, June 26, the independent music publication Hearing Things will be hosting a night of music and mayhem at the Ridgewood, Queens DIY hub Trans-Pecos featuring a special performance from the wildly unbound Baltimore rap duo Infinity Knives & Brian Ennals, along with DJ sets from Hearing Things co-founder Andy Cush.
Knives and Ennals’ latest album, A City Drowned in God’s Black Tears, quickly became a staff favorite when it hit our inboxes earlier this year, and Dylan’s Going Up profile on them is one for the books, too. At the show, you can look forward to Ennals’ shockingly direct lyrics—which read more like unfiltered thoughts on everything from racism to politics to overcoming mental illness—over Knives’ eclectic production, which pulls influences from Latin music, first-wave hip-hop, even System of a Down. God’s Black Tears tackles calamities and setbacks both personal and grand, from the constant newsfeed of atrocities in Gaza to the Trump administration’s dismantling of marginalized Americans’ rights to eviction notices, mass layoffs, and life-altering illnesses. This will be Knives and Ennals’ first live show in New York City following the new album’s release, and they have one of the most intense—and fun—sets you’ll ever see. Both intensely passionate and riotously nihilistic, they’re the perfect duo to soundtrack this particularly calamitous moment in American history.
Come ready to mingle, dance, throw down, and show out for the love of great music (and great music journalism!). Paying Hearing Things subscribers also get a special code for discounted tickets, so if you’re not signed up yet, now’s a great time to do just that!
