Carla Torgerson & GEMS
Carla is a singer, guitarist, and founding member of The Walkabouts, one of Sub Pop’s early
signings and the label’s first non-grunge group. In addition to recording 16 albums and touring
the world with The Walkabouts over the span of thirty-some-odd years, she sang with the UK’s
Tindersticks and recorded her debut solo album Saint Stranger in 2004. Fast forward to 2024
and Drums & Wires Recordings released her new, jazzy, folk-rock solo album Beckonings with
instrumental band GEMS, who give Carla’s compositions the widescreen, filmic sensibility that’s
long been a foundation in her music.
About Beckonings, Birgit Fuss (Rolling Stone, Germany) wrote “[Carla] still sounds so clear and
pure… her completely unaffected way of appreciating every syllable has something knowing
about it… the voice carries all the stories, and the music to it is the most beautiful folk pop, as
elegant as it is timeless – not sparse at all, just appropriately quiet.”
Richard Brisbois &The Haiku Mavericks
Beginning with his early band The Buckets and on to his ‘90s powerhouse rock band 4 Hr.
Ramona, and to his 2021 debut solo album Anytime You Think About Her, there is a depth to
Brisbois’s songwriting that comes into even sharper focus with his new EP Between the Light
and Me, released by Drums & Wires. Brisbois’ rousing, sing-along folk songs, which have been
likened to Wilco, The Go-Betweens and even R.E.M., draw us to an inner world, each revealing
themselves as if the listener were turning pages in a journal.
Richard will be joined on stage for this special evening of celebration by Katy Palmer, Jon Hyde,
Bruce Wirth, James Palmer, Michael Wells and Kevin Warner, collectively known as The Haiku
Mavericks.
Jon Hyde Band
Jon Hyde’s records are chock full of catchy, melodic rock and indie pop in the vein of groups
such as Jayhawks and Wilco - you can even hear a little Lennon & McCartney in there - all
infused with his distinctively warm voice and lyrical stories that pull you in closer. In addition to
his four solo albums, the most recent The Sad Lights released by Drums & Wires Recordings in
early 2024, Jon has brought his vocal and multi-instrumental talents to recordings by artists
such as Karl Blau, Laura Veirs, The Walkabouts, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter,
Transmissionary Six, Jim White, 1Uppers, and many others.
